MyoPro can be used by individuals with moderate upper extremity impairments due to neurological damage such as a stroke. The MyoPro is a functional orthotic, enabling users to incorporate their affected arm into activities of daily living such as feeding, grooming and light household chores (e.g laundry, light meal preparation tasks, cleaning, turning a light switch on/off). Attachments such as forks, spoons or hooks are also available to facilitate success in these activities.
MyoPro can also be utilized in a range of other functional activities both in the home and in the community. For those who have had a stroke, potential benefits include being able to use both arms for tasks such as pushing a shopping cart and using their walking cane safely while carrying a bag at the same time. By restoring movement and function to the affected arm, individuals can experience increased safety and an improved ability to stabilize themselves using the affected arm.
With consistent, functional use of the MyoPro, stroke survivors may also experience secondary therapeutic benefits such as an improvement in strength in their bicep and tricep muscles and a reduction in maladaptive or extraneous movements such as shoulder hiking or use of the back and trunk muscles to move their arm.
