Shoulder supports and Myomo
Shoulder supports and Myomo

Many people are concerned that they are not an appropriate candidate for Myomo, because they have a shoulder subluxation (or separation of the shoulder joint, resulting in strain and often pain in the shoulder muscles). This is not the case, and in fact we have seen shoulder subluxations, and shoulder pain begin to resolve with consistent use of Myomo over time. There are several options available for people who have a subluxation and who would like extra shoulder support while they are completing their Myomo exercises.
Neoprene shoulder support (or other preferred shoulder support). The Myomo team likes this style because of the neoprene and velcro, which allows it to fasten on to the device itself, providing both shoulder support and stabilization for the device.

Kinesio-taping. Kinesio-taping is a method utilizing flexible, water resistant tape that reduces inflammation and pain, relaxes over-used muscles, and supports muscles that may be weak. A trained therapist is able to apply the tape over the shoulder muscles to provide additional support. It is just important to remember that the Myomo sensor pads must have full contact with the skin, and are not placed on the tape.
