About UsThe mission of Myomo™ is to restore independence for individuals who suffer from debilitating muscle weakness or loss of neurological function. With roots at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and prestigious Boston-area hospitals, Myomo is pioneering development and commercialization of non-invasive NeuroRobotics.™ NeuroRobotics is a new category of medical device technology designed to enable individuals to self initiate and control movement of partially paralyzed limbs using their own biological signals. With this capability, NeuroRobotics helps people relearn how to move affected muscles by simultaneously engaging and reinforcing both neurological and motor pathways. No electrical stimulation or invasive procedures of any kind are employed. NeuroRobotics is initially intended for stroke patients who suffer from severe muscle weakness or loss of voluntary movement on one side of the body (hemiparesis). The technology has shown clinically meaningful results as a therapeutic modality used with severe chronic stroke patients, 1.5-to-10 years post CVA. (Stein J., Narendran K., McBean J., Krebs K., Hughes, R. Electromyography-Controlled Exoskeletal Upper-Limb-Powered Orthosis for Exercise Training after Stroke. Am. J. Phys. Med. Rehabil. Vol. 86. No. 4. 2007) In development since 2002, NeuroRobotics was pioneered by Myomo co-founders through MIT research and collaboration with prominent medical experts affiliated with Harvard Medical School. Myomo's award-winning, NeuroRobotics platform technology serves as a reusable building block for development of new Myomo products and expanded indications. With a focus on broadening the technology's application, Myomo has continued clinical research partnerships and additional trials are in progress. Note: Federal (USA) law restricts this device to sale by or on the order of a physician or physical therapist. Note: The Myomo e100 NeuroRobotic System is intended for clinical use by patients with their treating medical professional. The device has not been shown to be safe or effective as a functional aid.
